Cascading Waterfall: Lata Iskandar

What is a holiday without going on a trip?

That's exactly what me and Cyren and two of our friends did today as we drove to a waterfall situated along the trail from Tapah to Cameron Highlands in Perak. While the ride itself wasn't that exciting (imagine two hours in a tin car doing nothing), the waterfall, named Lata Iskandar in the local language, is a perfect getaway if one wants to dip themselves in cooling water and does some forest sightseeing. Plus, since the location lies on the mountain range (far far away from the city), you can bet that the air is clean and fresh.

A close-up image of the cascading water

Truthfully, the waterfall is of nothing spectacular, perhaps I have seen too many of them. However, for those who like the cascading cold water, this is a suitable spot for a lovely picnic and moments of relaxation. Do be mindful that since the place is located in the forest, there are creepy-crawlies running around the area such as a giant centipede. Most of the times, they are harmless as long as you avoid them. As for bug enthusiasts, this is a haven for you all. Not only can you find terrestrial bugs but the water flowing down to a river is a breeding spot for dragonflies and damselflies.

It's not really clear but I managed to take a picture of a damselfly resting on a rock.

And of course, I couldn't have a Lego-themed blog without posting a Lego picture of myself.

I did have the intention to relax and read a book there but alas, I took pictures of the Lego me reading instead. That's Cyren btw, trying to climb a rock

Hitting the books....Again

As the title says, I am hitting the books again...both figuratively and literally. From my previous post, you will know that this year is my final in my degree and programmes and as a prerequisite, I have to write a thesis.

From the surface, this task isn't exactly difficult but when you look at the amount of tomes (if they are compiled, they might as well be tomes) you have to read, it's just staggering. I have dedicated my whole afternoon today to reading but I have merely finished half a chapter of a book and I'm already complaining of sore eyes and headache. To those of my friends who can read continuously and understand it all, kudos to you.

After publishing this, I need to find a place whereby I can enjoy a cup of something and hopefully start my proposal soon.

Coming Home

Hi everyone! I'm back home now (my West Malaysia home anyway). Above is my room's window view of Petaling Jaya/Subang in Selangor. Nothing much except for city lights.

Anyhow, can't say I totally miss this room (alot of problem arose recently) but I am kinda glad to live on my own again. Don't get me wrong, at my parents' house, I don't have to worry about food expenses and entertainment but sometimes, this bird wants to fly on its own. Plus, there's the whole parental nags that I so do not want to endure.

For now, let's end here since I'm tired and I don't really know what else to write. LOLZ. Ciaoz

Super Valentine

It's officially 14th February and love is in the air. That's right, it's Valentine's Day.

Although many cultures have its own variation of the festival to celebrate the love between two people, Valentine's Day has become so secular that people word wide generally accept today as the day of love. Don't worry, they still practice their own version of Valentine on a separate date but due to the sheer number of variety of the festival, I can't share all of them here. Just go visit our friend, Wikipedia or Google.

Personally, I didn't really celebrate Valentine until 3 years old ago which meant that I never had a Valentine in highschool.... It's sad to think about it but nevertheless, I'm attached now and SCREW YOU PEOPLE WHO REJECTED MY VALENTINE BEFORE!

Alright, I shouldn't get all pissy as today is the day for love. Since I'm still in my hometown celebrating Chinese New Year (for Chinese, Valentine almost always falls on one of the 15 days of Chinese New Year which is hard for couples to get together), I have made something for my darling (whom shall not be named) and to all those love birds out there.

It's a collage of most of the Lego superheroes (even Magneto since he's somewhat a hero at the moment). It may seem geeky but I did do it from the bottom of my heart. That and the fact that I ran out of ideas of what to build for Valentine. Plus, I'm trying to step put of the cliche zone of giving flowers and candies and what-not.

All in all, HAPPY VALENTINE! If you don't have someone to spend time with, perhaps it's time to go out and meet people. You never know what you will reel in.

Happy Chinese New Year 2013

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!

Yes, to those who are celebrating this festival, you would know tonite is the eve of Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese calender, today is supposed to be the last day of Chinese year and tomorrow is the new year whereby everyone is supposed to buy new clothes, visit long lost friends or relatives and wish others for a prosperous future.

Another significant aspect of this new year is the change of the zodiac animal. It is similar to the horoscope that most people like to follow but for the Chinese, the zodiac begins with the rat and ends with the pigs. There are 12 animals and this year is the year of the Snake. Congraz to those who belong to the Snake.

With respect to this year, I have decided to build a Lego snake to commemorate the year.

Believe me, I try to make it looked less menacing but it ended up looking like something else. A worm or a pipe. Nevertheless, this is my best attempt at it. Below are two more views of the snake.

Now, while I was in KL before I came back, I noticed that almost of the shopping malls did not put up any snake-related decorations as opposed to last year where I even saw a giant dragon as a centerpiece in Sunway Pyramid. So what I want to say is just that not all snakes are poisonous or dangerous just like how not all canines and felines are completely safe. As a matter of fact, snakes prefer to be left alone living a solitary lifestyle. They would only attack if they sense danger or feel threatened to their well-being or nest. Otherwise, they think humans are loud and annoying creatures. Now, with the year of the Snake officially begins tomorrow, next time if you see a snake, think about what I just wrote and leave them alone. You wouldn't like to be disturbed now would you? It's the year for the snakes and they deserve to be happy.

And again, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!!

Airport

The thing about airport is that everything sold here will always be expensive. From beverage to souvenirs, the price can double or triple up which makes one wonder, why would anyone spend that extra amount just to get something like a can of coca-cola when clearly one can always buy it once he or she leaves the airport.

Well, here's the thing, there is always someone willing to pay that extortionate price which keeps the business going. It makes sense 'cuz there is limited resources here and when one is desperate enough, the price tag is negligible. For example, when one is thirsty and there no where else to buy cheap water around, one has no choice buy to spend that amount so that his or her thirst can be quenched. Same thing goes for food and last minute present which one supposes to buy for their loved ones at home but forgot about it.

On the other hand, sometimes people like to splurge a bit to feel a sense of glamour or what not. Sadly, I'm one of these people from time to time especially when I'm going back to my hometown. One reason is that once I'm home, I have the luxury of relying on my parents to spend for me. I won't have to concern about what to eat or how much I need to spend for the rest of the months or those sorts of issues. Thus, whenever I'm at the airport, I don't mind spending a bit month (e.g., drinking Coffee Bean) just to pamper myself after months of being frugal. Call me snobby but I believe that a person deserves to feel like a king once in a while.

Needless to say, that doesn't mean I always like it to go home. Usually, my parents have to coerce me to go home and sometimes, festivals such as the Chinese New Year require me to be present at home. It's not so much as to my family's constant nags about my life (actually, that would be the top reason) but I hate the usual routine of riding the tight-seated bus and plane while wasting m precious time of waiting for these vehicles to arrive. I'm waiting for my flight at the moment which got me thinking about writing this post.

Anyhow, Chinese New Year is just around the corner which is my reason for going back this time. With that I leave you with a picture of me (my Lego self). Cheers
