Year of the Ponies

Today is the first day of the New Year - Chinese New Year to be exact and it's the year of the Ponies. Now, Chinese culture has its own version of the zodiac, represented by 12 animals. In order, they are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, dog and pig. Since it's a 12 year cycle, you can sort of tell a person's age just by knowing their animal zodiac sign. For example, it's horse this year so that means the person this year would be either 12 years old or 24 years old or 36 years old.

As for me, I am one of those special cases which even my elders get confused sometimes. If you follow the Gregorian calender (or Western calender), I'm supposed to be the goat. However, according the the Chinese calender, I'm a horse since my date of birth fell before the Chinese New Year. Regarding this matter, my grandmother would claim that I'm a horse but my aunties and uncles and even my parents would say I'm a goat. To a certain extent, I was even referred to as goat head, horse tail. As of now, I'm just getting comfortable to re-identify myself as a horse because Chinese customs entail it. There are a few times I reverted back to asserting that I'm a goat but old habits.

Regardless of the animal zodiac sign, I just want to wish everybody a Happy Chinese New Year and for those for do not celebrate this festival, Happy Holidays.

Nothing Lasts Forever

Over the years, I have amounted quite a collection of LEGO pieces. While I wouldn't dare say I'm an avid collector, I do have various pieces from minifgure parts to regular bricks. Of course, I would be elated if they could persist to be in good shape, as new as I first took them out from their packages. Alas, most of them were eventually eroded by time as evident below.

Now, I have to blame some of the damages on myself. Perhaps, I didn't take good care of them as much as I should or I didn't place them in a proper container. Aside from that, old LEGO pieces are infamous for their decolourization, especially white pieces. Prolong exposure to sunlight or heat will eventually turn them slightly yellowish or light brown. I tried to wash them with detergent (be careful with this stuff) but to no avail. Of course, some LEGO pieces are extremely fragile like the plant in the picture. Apply just enough force and you will snap part of it off. If you are a klutz like me, you might want to be careful with all the unique pieces they are offering these days.

For every pieces that was damaged or broken, it seriously hurts me. First of all, LEGO is quite expensive. Next, I still want to build my LEGO dream city and the damaged pieces are not helping me with that prospect. Honestly, this has made me quite reluctant to buy any more LEGO sets because I don't have the space for them and I do not want this sort of thing to happen. *Sigh*

Anyhow, to all the LEGO lovers out there, make sure you take good care of the pieces.

Chinese New Year Mood in Supermarkets

In a busy supermarket, you know it's Chinese New Year when loud Chinese New Year songs are blasting through the speakers; adults are panickly stocking their shopping carts with crates of beverage and junk foods; and long queues by the cashier dotted with sour faces because the cashier is too slow to check out all the grocery item prices.

It happened to me the other day when I was buying grocery for myself in Aeon, Sunway Pyramid. I forgot CNY was near and I had to wait in the long queue just to purchase a few packets of vegetables. Bear in mind, everyone in the queue had a trolley full of junks and CNY is still like two weeks away. Ok, maybe it's wise of them to stock up first but it just made me slightly pissed at the festival.

The festival is always hectic, even for me because I had to help out with chores. And then I have to visit all my parents' friends, not to mention my annoying extended family members.

In summary, I have mixed feelings about CNY. Seem to have mixed feelings about a lot of things lately.

Anyhow, ciaoz :3

Lines to Meet Up

Phew~ and just like that 2 weeks passed for my internship (but deep down, it's not passing fast enough!)

Truth be told, I am still having mixed feelings about my current place. On one hand, that place drives me to the brink of mental instability while on the other hand, I do enjoy working (just kill me now). The thing is, yes, there are loads of task and work to complete and sometimes, the supervisors are not exactly supportive or rational (in a sense). Yet, on other occasions, they do genuinely care and I am always looking forward to meet and chat with some of the staff there.

Life is weird in its amalgamation of weirdness and I guess nothing is absolute.

On other parts of my life, today is my off day which is good. What's not good about it is that I have to spend it with an incomplete thesis which is due in exactly a week time, mind you. As of now, I still have to proofread and amend various minor errors. Gosh, my life is just full of documents and deadlines to meet up.

Seriously, I hope I'm not dead when I meet the lines~

Bittersweetness

(Note: Current post is bittersweet)

Two days ago, a certain hubby of mine hosted a small birthday for me (one of the fews that I ever had). He invited several buddies of ours (some from my side) and we did a pot luck style of a party. I can tell you it wasn't fancy or glamorous but honestly, I didn't really care. I was with my friends and I somehow managed to make several strangers laughed and joked with each other. Indeed, awkward averted which was a big deal for me.
Cyren was the person to thank for all this. He wanted to make sure I had a good time before he left for field work in the forest. That's where the bitter part came in. He will be gone for a while and we aren't sure when we will see each other. He's coming back at the end of January but not for too long. According to him, he's going to spend roughly a full year there? He wasn't exactly looking forward to it but I convinced him it is an opportunity to leave closer to nature which is what he always wanted.

As for me, I'm stuck with the corporate world for now. My working future is still bleak. I have no idea what I'm going to after my internship or if I will pass my internship (boss is scary, talk about it another time). I'm just trying to make the best of working life and earn some cash to spend with Cyren in the future because working life, as I have realized, sucks big time.

Well, not to end the post in a somber mood, I really did appreciate the things Cyren did for me., like the birthday party. It is the happiest day of 2014 by far. Plus, he left me with a little cutie below. I'm hugging it to sleep every now onwards.

Ride for Thoughts

Today marks the first week of my internship. I know I haven't been updating as much as I should (usual excuse: business). Seriously, just because it's internship, it doesn't mean they won't drain every ounce of your energy. Anyhow, I have decided to feature the few good and bad things about riding a motorbike to work (technically, I ride to train stations which then I take to work but that's not the point).

The Good
1) It's convenient especially in a congested road (I can bypass all the cars).
2) I can park almost anywhere.
3) Petrol cost is not a major problem as it's cheap.
4) I can pretend I'm Ghost Rider.

The Bad
1) There's a risk of becoming a roadkill.
2) Air reeks of pollution.
3) Chance of stolen helmet is high.
4) Raining is a major issue for riders.

I'm sure there are issues I could include but these are the only ones I prioritize for now. Nonetheless, I know riding motorbikes can be dangerous especially on streets like KL, so I have decided to carpool with a few friends every now and then. Plus, I can sleep in the car.

Second day of Interning

And just like that, I'm JUST on the second day of my internship. It's not that it's boring here, (honestly, I don't really hate it but I don't exactly love it here as well), things can be quite tedious but what do you expect from an office job. Yup, my day is filled with writing reports and tabulating data.

However, there is definitely a drawback towards working here - the distance. Everyday, I spent approximately an hour and fifteen minutes just to travel here and damn, I can just crash on my bed and not wake up the moment when I reach home. Well, it's only the second day so it's still early to tell how things will go about here.

Anyhow, I will leave you all with this picture below:

Yup, DJ earphone and Mr Caffeine have become my best friends. (Note: by caffeine I'm referring to coffee in general, not Starbucks. I don't have the money to afford that shitz on a daily basis).

First Post of 2014

First blog post of 2014! Woohoo!

This marks the first day of 2014 and I felt the necessity to post about my New Year Eve party in my unit. Nothing fancy went out unless you count a great time with a few friends and the love of your life of course. We had homemade dinner (i.e. pasta and salad) and some booze as well. Can't celebrate New Year's Eve with friends without booze. Unfortunately, after drinking the liquor, I was reminded of the nasty aftermath with the headache, sore throat and dizziness. So, yeah...not an alcohol person.

While the mini party is not as fancy as the ones downtown (they have the clock and everything), I wouldn't traded it for anything else. I don't really like crowded areas, especially one where you have to constantly check your pocket to make sure nothing was stolen. Anyway, we laughed, we joked, we revealed secrets that were embarrassing but still fun nonetheless. Last of all, the privilege of living around Sunway Lagoon is that you would be treated with an awesome performance of fireworks dancing in the sky comes 12am.

I'm going to end this post now as I think I wrote a bit too much for my previous one. Overall, just want to wish everyone Happy New Year! Cheers to 2014!
